About Richard L. Stark

Painting is very easy when you don’t know how, but very difficult when you do. – Edgar Degas

In the beginning I had talent, but no discipline. Later, I searched for an avenue to apply my skills productively. For over two decades, before signage became computer generated, I made my living painting signs and illustrations for commercial use. As technology changed the sign industry, I developed a successful business creating and applying paint finishes for homes and businesses while developing my skills as an artist by drawing and painting increasingly complex murals.

After almost twenty five years I broke free from commercial pursuits, studying drawing, composition, color theory and pursuing the subjects that bring out my passion.

I have studied with prominent American teachers, including my mentor, Ruben Arizpe.
